Reflections on a Knock-Your-Socks Off Party

Today’s Prompt:
Party.

What social gathering rocked your socks off in 2010? Describe the people, music, food, drink, clothes, shenanigans. (Author: Shauna Reid)

In October, we hosted a birthday party that literally knocked everyone’s socks off. Literally.

The venue: A rec center multi-purpose room

The people: 20-ish kids under 10

The food: Pizza and cake

The drinks: Juice boxes

The clothes: Comfy

The shenanigans: Sand art

The highlight: Yoga

The feet: Bare

My son and his best friend — whose birthday is six days before his — joined forces to celebrate turning 8. A fantastic kids yoga teacher led the two serious little yogis and their friends — most with special needs — through deep breaths and downward dog and yogic interpretations of “The Sound of Music” and robots. The  kids stretched and bent and ohm’d and ahhhh’d. Uniting forces for this celebration no doubt doubled the fun and the positive party energy.
